Spring days are extremely dark and wet here in Edinburgh - so I decided to look back on my archives and post about a beautiful family photo shoot on a Sunny day at the Edinburgh Botanics.
Rowan was 3 months old here and capturing this part of his life was a pleasure.
When I first got into family photography, I soon started reading about all the rules of timings. Newborns are best photographed in the first 10 days as most of them tend to sleep a lot and their skin starts to peel soon after. Most professionals do not recommend baby photography after that short newborn stage until they reach around 12 months of age - due to them not being very mobile and therefore lacking 'photo' options, and they also tend to cry and be upset more in the periods when they are awake. While I very much see the above points - a toddler can have much more fun, activities for a photoshoot, and the serenity of the first few days of the newborn stage are heavenly for photos - I do think this photoshoot proved that 'breaking' the rules sometimes creates beautiful results! The parents doing the little fun things they do with their child is what makes these photographs. Children grow so quickly, that they deserve to be captured in all their different, beautiful stages of life.
I delivered this gallery a month after the photoshoot happened, as I had a busy Summer season, and the mother said she was very emotional because of how much Rowan has grown since the photoshoot, it was very special for them to have this stage captured.
