Nowadays it's not easy to decide if something is really 'big' or just your social media bubble. However, I've been seeing a rise in elopements and the slow-living movement - and I do think there is a connection.
If you're thinking about getting married or eloping in Scotland - good news - no matter where you're from, you can tie the knot anywhere in the country, you just need someone approved to conduct a ceremony(a celebrant).
I do love weddings - it is a chance to celebrate your relationship with all of your loved ones - but they can be overwhelming in many ways. A long guest list, a lot more organizing, more interactions throughout the day, and of course - more outgoings for the couple!
Slow living is about stripping back - less buying, fewer to-do lists, and less rushing. This leads to more meaningful interactions and time with loved ones and one's self. More grounded moments in the present. Being more intentional. Needing less means spending less. Elopements are so similar in many ways.

I'm pretty sure that a few years ago all of this was packaged as minimalism - but with that word, a lot of negative things have been associated. I think a lot of this has come from people associating the movement with the most extreme people and aspects, and fighting over if you can use the label if you've got this or that, or how your home looks like. The whole message and ideology behind it are the same though. Having a more minimal way of living is allowing people to be less busy. Less stressed.
Elopements can be a good way of celebrating your love without the added stress factors of organizing a big wedding and it can also be a good way of merging your ceremony and your honeymoon in your dream location.
I believe elopements do not have to be expensive (they will most likely be a fraction of a typical wedding). Who says you need to have a 'proper' wedding dress anyway? Add your twist to it, your personality, and a lot of the time it can be much more unique and authentic than just doing what you see on a Pinterest board.
Location? Of course, you can elope the Glencoe and Skye and they are worth the trip as they are breathtaking - but you are maybe overlooking several other hidden spots that might be closer to you and can still look amazing and you can have an intimate elopement. Let me tell you, photographers will know these hidden gems!
